Unit 3 PEOPLE’S BACKGROUND Lesson: READING

I. Objectives: By the end of this lesson, students will be able to:

Warm-up (5 minutes)

-T prepares some pictures of famous people with their jobs in jumble. -T asks Ss to match the people corresponding to their jobs.

Marie Curie e. a scientist -T asks Ss to present their finished results in front of class. -T leads into the new lesson: Today we’re going to learn about Marie Curie, a famous scientist.

-Ss close their books and listen to the teacher’s explanation.

-Ss do the matching task in individual.

-Ss present their result before the class.

-Ss listen and open the textbook to enter the new lesson.

Pre-reading

10 minutes

-T asks Ss to work in pairs to make a list of what they know and of what they don’t know about Marie Curie. -Tcalls two pairs of Ss to present their preparation. -T introduces some new words. + brilliant (a) + harbour (v): keep in the mind (v) + tutor (n) + humanitarian (n) -T guides Ss to pronounce these new words -T corrects their mistakes in pronunciation.

-Ss open their books and work in pairs.

-Ss make a list about Marie Curie. -Ss listen and take notes new words.

-Ss practise pronouncing new words.

While- reading

15 minutes

Task 1 -T asks Ss to listen to the tape. -T asks Ss to read the text in silence for the first time. -T helps Ss understand meanings of new words. -Tgoes around the class and helps Ss to Task 1. -T requires Ss to show their results on the board. -T get feedbacks from Ss and gives out remarks. + be struck (v)
